Position Overview
The Behaviour, Wellbeing & Safeguarding Leader is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive behaviour curriculum aligned with the Catholic ethos and values of St. Francis of the Fields Primary School. This role involves leading the development of proactive behaviour management strategies and routines that support student wellbeing and academic success. The Behaviour Curriculum Leader will collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents to create a positive learning environment that promotes respectful relationships, self-discipline, and resilience among students.
A safeguarding role in a Catholic primary school typically involves ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development and Implementation

Develop and implement a whole-school behaviour curriculum that integrates Catholic teachings and values.

Design and facilitate professional development for staff on evidence-based behaviour management strategies.

Ensure the behaviour curriculum is aligned with national and state standards, as well as the specific needs of the student body.
Leadership and Collaboration

Lead and coordinate the Behaviour Support Team to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of behaviour policies and interventions.

Collaborate with pastoral care teams, teachers, and learning support staff to develop and implement individual behaviour plans for students requiring additional support.

Serve as a mentor to staff, modeling best practices in behaviour management and restorative practices.
Student Engagement and Wellbeing

Foster a positive school culture that emphasizes the importance of respect, responsibility, and reconciliation.

Implement routines and structures that encourage positive student behaviour and engagement in learning.

Oversee the collection and analysis of behaviour-related data to inform decision-making and intervention strategies.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHiPs)
-
The role of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader is to build the capability of the whole school about mental health and wellbeing (identification, promotion and prevention), provide support to staff to better identify and support students with mental health needs, establish clear pathways for referral for students requiring assessment and intervention, and monitor and evaluate student progress.

The successful candidate will take on the Mental Health in Primary Schools Training Program comprising an Induction session, three core modules: Mental Health Literacy, Building Capacity, Supporting Need, and a Community of Practice, with a combination of online learning seminars.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

Engage parents and carers in the behaviour curriculum through regular communication and involvement in behaviour-related initiatives.

Liaise with external agencies and specialists to provide additional support for students with complex behavioural needs.

Promote the behaviour curriculum within the school community through presentations, newsletters, and other communication channels.
Compliance and Reporting

Ensure that all behaviour management practices comply with relevant legislative requirements and school policies.

Maintain accurate records of behaviour incidents, interventions, and outcomes.

Provide regular reports to the school leadership team on the effectiveness of the behaviour curriculum and any areas for improvement.
Child Protection:

Act as the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.

Provide confidential advice and support to students and staff regarding safeguarding issues.

Handle child protection disclosures and make referrals to social services when necessary.

Develop, implement, and review the school’s safeguarding policies.

Ensure all staff are aware of and follow these policies.

Maintain accurate records of safeguarding concerns and actions taken.

Prepare reports for school leadership and governing bodies.

Conduct and facilitate risk assessments for safeguarding issues.

Selection Criteria
Qualifications and Experience
-
A degree in education, plus additional any other related field of study. e.g. psychology, etc
-
Experience in a leadership role within a school setting, with a focus on behaviour management and student wellbeing.

Understanding of and commitment to the Catholic faith and its application in an educational context.
Skills and Abilities

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

Ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

Proficiency in data analysis and the use of data to inform practice and decision-making.
