Join our team at the University of the Sunshine Coast as an Academic Governance Officer, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping our academic landscape. You will provide strategic governance advice and procedural support to the Academic Board and its Standing Committees, influencing key decisions that define our university's future. This role offers high visibility and trust, involving confidential information and direct engagement with senior staff and university executives. Responsibilities include advising on secretariat matters, managing policies, overseeing compliance activities, and fostering a culture of positive governance. You'll also provide comprehensive committee support, ensuring adherence to our established policies and procedures, all while contributing to our commitment to excellence in education and community impact. You will
- support effective committee operations by assisting Chairs, managing agendas and documentation, and ensuring alignment with legislative frameworks in collaboration with the Council Secretariat;
- oversee the University’s Policy Framework, ensuring accurate policy management and fostering strong stakeholder communication; and
- promote a positive compliance culture by coordinating documentation, supporting reporting processes, and contributing to internal audits.

You’re organised and proactive, with a keen eye for detail and a talent for managing multiple tasks, from preparing agendas to tracking action items and maintaining records. You'll play a key role within the team, contributing to the University's Policy Framework by providing expert advice and ensuring policies are up-to-date and well-communicated. You're also someone who’s committed to promoting a positive risk management and compliance culture, supporting reporting processes, and contributing to internal audits. With a collaborative spirit, you’ll play an essential role in a team that values continual improvement and drives best practices.
You will possess:
- Strong understanding of governance, management, and operations in regulated environments, with the ability to navigate complex decision-making processes, policy frameworks, compliance requirements, and the interplay between legislation, plans, and activities.
- Ability to conduct research, identify and adapt best practices in governance, risk management, and assurance, showing initiative and a drive for improvement.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to consult, engage, and communicate clearly and effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence, collaborate, and build relationships across diverse groups and organisational levels.
- Highly organised with excellent prioritisation skills, able to meet deadlines and contribute positively to a collegial and supportive team environment.
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn government and higher education frameworks, including key legislation such as the Australian Qualifications Framework, TEQSA Act 2011, and HESF.
- Experience in contemporary information management processes and systems.
