The Opportunity

Venues & Catering plays an important role in enhancing the campus experience by delivering high-quality food, beverage and hospitality services across UniSC campuses. The Catering Assistant contributes to this mission by supporting the daily operations of a busy university café environment, ensuring students, staff and visitors receive friendly, efficient and professional service.

In this role, you will work as part of a collaborative team to prepare and serve food and beverages, maintain café presentation standards, and support a safe, clean and welcoming environment during busy service periods. Hours of availability between 6:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.

You will

  • prepare and serve beverages, including coffee, tea and cold drinks;
  • assist with preparing simple food items such as sandwiches, wraps and salads;
  • provide friendly, professional and efficient customer service to students, staff and visitors;
  • process customer orders and handle cash and EFTPOS transactions accurately;
  • maintain food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards across café and kitchen areas; and
  • support daily café operations including stock presentation, opening and closing procedures, dishwashing and general kitchen duties.

About you

You are a reliable and customer-focused hospitality professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced team environment. You bring a positive attitude, strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering excellent service to a diverse university community. You are organised, adaptable and able to maintain high standards of food safety, presentation and cleanliness while working efficiently during busy periods.

You will possess:

  • Experience working in a café, hospitality or food service environment;
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people;
  • Experience preparing and serving food and beverages, including handling cash and EFTPOS transactions;
  • A sound understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements;
  • The ability to work efficiently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment; and
  • Reliability, flexibility and availability to work casual shifts between 6:30am and 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.
