The Opportunity

As a Senior Clinical Practice Academic – Medicine, you will play a key role in shaping UniSC's innovative Bachelor of Clinical Science/Doctor of Medicine program through the design and development of high-quality clinical education. Drawing on your specialist clinical expertise, you will contribute to the development of contemporary curriculum, assessment and learning experiences that will prepare students for internship and future medical practice.

Working collaboratively with academic staff, clinicians and healthcare partners, you will help build sustainable clinical education systems, support the development of clinical supervisors and mentors, strengthen placement partnerships, and contribute to a medical program that meets Australian Medical Council standards while responding to the healthcare needs of communities across southern Queensland.

You will:

  • lead the design, development and continuous improvement of innovative clinical curriculum, learning activities and assessment;
  • contribute to high-quality pre-clinical and clinical education that prepares students for internship and professional practice;
  • develop systems and resources that support clinical supervisors, facilitators and student success;
  • build and strengthen partnerships with hospitals, health services and community providers to enhance placement opportunities; and
  • contribute to scholarship, research and academic leadership within the Medicine Discipline and School of Health.

About you

You are an experienced medical specialist who is passionate about clinical education and developing the next generation of doctors. Whether your teaching experience has been gained within a university, hospital or specialist training environment, you enjoy mentoring learners, collaborating with colleagues and building strong partnerships across the health sector. You are excited by the opportunity to help shape an innovative medical program that delivers outstanding student outcomes while responding to the healthcare needs of regional communities.

You will possess:

  • Fellowship with a recognised Specialist Medical College and current registration as a medical specialist in Australia.
  • Demonstrated excellence in specialist clinical practice together with experience in clinical teaching, supervision or medical education.
  • Experience designing or contributing to high-quality medical curriculum, learning activities and assessment that support student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with hospitals, health services, clinical partners and professional stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting, mentoring or developing clinical supervisors, facilitators or medical educators.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and excellence in medical education.
  • Evidence of engagement in scholarship, research and/or quality improvement activities that contribute to advancing clinical education.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining contemporary specialist clinical expertise.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications in clinical education, supervision or health professions education.
  • Experience teaching within an accredited university medical program.
  • Experience contributing to curriculum innovation, accreditation activities (including Australian Medical Council standards), or the development of clinical placement programs.
  • Formal recognition for excellence in teaching, clinical education, scholarship or research.
