Campus Development and Services is responsible for the planning, operation, maintenance and future development of UniSC’s facilities and landscape assets, playing a critical role in achieving the University's strategic goals

As the Team Leader, Maintenance and Grounds, you will provide operational leadership across UniSC’s maintenance and grounds services, coordinating daily activities, overseeing maintenance and landscaping operations, and ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality service delivery across campuses. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced facilities, maintenance, landscaping or grounds professional to combine hands-on leadership, planning, stakeholder engagement and environmental stewardship in a diverse university environment.

You will

• Coordinate the daily activities of Maintenance Technical Officers while directly managing grounds maintenance portfolio to ensure works are effectively prioritised, allocated, and completed across UniSC campuses;
• Lead the development of landscape rehabilitation and development plans and projects to enhance the sustainability and recreational amenity of UniSC landscape assets and ensure UniSC grounds are planned, developed and maintained in accordance with campus master plans and related standards; and
• Be the primary escalation point for day-to-day maintenance issues, supporting Maintenance Technical Officers in resolving operational challenges ensuring planned and reactive maintenance activities are delivered in a timely, efficient, and consistent manner, aligned with operational priorities, service standards, and compliance requirements.

About you

You are a capable and hands-on leader with experience managing maintenance, facilities, grounds or landscape operations across complex and geographically dispersed environments. You bring strong operational judgement, a proactive approach to problem-solving and a genuine commitment to creating safe, sustainable and welcoming environments for the community. Comfortable balancing day-to-day service delivery with longer-term planning, environmental improvement initiatives and stakeholder engagement, you demonstrate a collaborative, customer-focused approach and thrive in dynamic roles where every day brings new challenges and opportunities.

You will possess:

• Completion of a degree or extensive trade experience in building services, grounds, landscapes, facilities maintenance trades, compliance and facilities contract support;
• Extensive experience in managing a dispersed portfolio of medium to large grounds and landscapes with a demonstrated understanding of Southeast Queensland biodiversity, wildlife reserves and associated ecology;
• Demonstrated experience in team supervision and coordinating day to day operational activities while managing an individual technical workload in a maintenance or service delivery environment;
• An understanding of estate master planning and the value of landscapes, sustainability practices, biodiversity, and natural features in delivering aesthetics and a positive connection and experience for the people who use the space;
• Contract development, and contractor and supplier management, ensuring maintenance works comply with contract requirements, including meeting service delivery and performance KPI’s;
• Financial management ensuring consistency with budget allocation, tracking of expenditure and processing of purchase orders and invoices;
• Develop and maintain strong communication and customer focused relationships with colleagues, clients, suppliers, contractors, and other key stakeholder groups including state and local government;
• Experience in the implementation of maintenance and grounds management practices and procedures, with knowledge and an understanding of relevant HSW legislation and practical application in the workplace;
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including climbing ladders, working at heights and manual handling; and
• Full Class C drivers licence.
