Job Description

Assists in planning audits and/or plans less complex audits, including analyzing requirements, determining audit objectives, and developing audit procedures.

Applies knowledge of accounting, auditing, financial, and risk management while conducting audit procedures set forth in audit programs, ensuring that those procedures are appropriately applied in accordance with applicable professional principles and standards.

Obtains, analyzes, and appraises audit evidence, including researching, investigating, analyzing, reconciling, and evaluating data. Adequately documents all work performed to support conclusions.

Identifies business issues and develops recommendations, including policy or procedural changes, for University management.

Obtains annual continuing professional education credits sufficient to meet the requirements of any professional certifications held, the requirements of the U.S. Government Accountability Office, and a minimum of two hours of ethics-related education annually, all using departmental resources.

Performs research and provides consulting services to University management on varied financial, operational, and compliance issues, including producing non-standardized work products as necessary.

Participates in annual audit projects, indirect audit activities, special projects, and assists with investigations as assigned.

Performs follow-up activities to determine if adequate corrective action has been implemented.

Performs and/or assists student worker with assigned projects.

Applies, interprets, or assesses existing policies, procedures, state and federal laws, and regulations.

Interacts frequently with audit customers, using both oral and written communication skills to discuss financial and/or business processes or issues.

Provides administrative support to the Office of Audit and Advisory Services including, but not limited to: purchasing, maintaining budget records, assisting with travel pre-approvals and expenses, running routine reports, and assisting in the preparation of reports. Serves as the department’s Equipment Liaison and adheres to the responsibilities as defined in the Equipment Liaison Handbook.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or an equivalent level of education and experience.

Education and/or experience in applying accounting principles and/or professional auditing standards.

Education and/or experience in analyzing internal control systems and procedures.

Ability to research, interpret, summarize, and/or evaluate compliance with pertinent laws, regulations, policies, etc..

Ability to work in a team setting and independently with little guidance.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism and sound judgment.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various levels of management.

Strong analytical and documentation skills with an emphasis on attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in higher education or a government agency.

Certification related to Internal Audit, Fraud, or Accounting

Experience in a professional accounting or auditing position.

Experience with: Banner, eVA, Cognos, Emburse/ChromeRiver, or TeamMate
