About Us

Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,100 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.” The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the NCAA Division III level and two at the Division I level. Division III programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), with the exception of Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (WIAC affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), and Division I Women’s Soccer competes as an affiliate member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC).  

Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to provide education, independent health care, and preventative services for our varsity student-athletes, coaching staff, and members of the Athletic Department. Work closely with other full-time athletic trainers, physical therapist, and the athletic insurance coordinator to assist in the day-to-day management of the athletic department’s intercollegiate sports medicine operation and provide effective delivery of athletic training services.

Responsibilities

• Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Services:
  
  • Provide comprehensive sports medicine care for varsity student-athletes, including the evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and return-to-play plans utilizing therapeutic modalities, rehabilitative exercise, and manual therapy techniques.
  • Determine the need for medical referrals and coordinate care with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintain accurate, current, confidential, and compliant medical records and documentation.
  • Effectively communicate with student-athletes, coaches, physicians, emergency medical personnel, parents, and athletic department staff to support the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes.
• Athletic Coverage & Student-Athlete Support:
  
  • Serve as the primary athletic trainer for the Division I (NCHC) Men's Ice Hockey program and an additional Division III sport as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Wellness.
  • Provide medical coverage for practices, competitions, team travel, and designated off-campus events.
  • Sport assignments are reviewed annually and may be adjusted to align with departmental needs, staff expertise, and equitable distribution of coverage responsibilities.
  • Maintain a professional presence while representing Colorado College at athletic events, practices, travel engagements, meetings, conventions, and within the broader community.
• Department Operations, Education & Professional Development:
  
  • Assist with the daily operations and administrative functions of the Sports Medicine Department.
  • Provide direct supervision, mentoring, and educational support to athletic training students and physical therapy aides.
  • Participate in required departmental, athletic department, and institutional meetings, and contribute to collaborative initiatives that support student-athlete health and wellness.
  • Maintain professional competency and required certifications through continuing education and active engagement in the athletic training profession.
• Compliance, Collaboration & Community Engagement:
  
  • Ensure compliance with Colorado College policies and procedures, NCAA regulations, conference requirements, professional standards, and applicable codes of ethics.
  • Foster positive working relationships with athletic department personnel, faculty, staff, students, healthcare providers, and external partners.
  • Contribute to an inclusive, respectful, and equitable environment that supports student success and reflects the College's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• BOC Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing with the BOC, NATA, and other national/state regulatory agencies; must possess a current and valid State of Colorado licensure number or be eligible to immediately obtain this licensure; must be certified in First-aid, CPR, and AED use as a Professional Rescuer by the ARC/AHA
• 1 year of experience in a related field
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier
• Ability to work extended hours, early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays frequently due to the athletic seasons.
• Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 50 lbs., travel on a plane, bus or in vans for an extended periods and the ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Must possess a current passport or get one within 90 days of hire for international travel with athletic teams.
• Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong clinical and interpersonal skills
• Exceptional time management and detail-orientation skills, and have the ability to work independently as well as with other staff
• Experience working in a collegiate, co-educational environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of insurance referral systems for athletic injury claims
• Proficiency in standard office equipment, and the use of electronic medical record system software
• Basic knowledge of NCAA rules for Division I & Division III athletics.
• Collegiate, Professional or Junior Ice Hockey experience desired.
• Two years or more of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

• $57,784 per year
