Location: Welshpool
Salary: $85,000 + super
About the Role:
The Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely records of the company's fixed assets. This includes tracking the acquisition, capitalization, depreciation, and disposal of assets, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. The role plays a key part in financial reporting and audits related to property, plant, and equipment (PP&E).
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure accurate recording of asset acquisitions, transfers, disposals, and impairments.
- Monitor capital expenditure and ensure timely capitalization of assets in accordance with accounting standards (e.g., AASB, IFRS).
- Classify assets appropriately and assign useful lives and depreciation methods.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations of the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger.
- Generate and analyze fixed asset reports to support financial reporting and audits.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including depreciation runs and journals.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.
- Support internal and external audits by providing schedules, documentation, and analysis related to fixed assets.
- Implement and improve processes related to asset management, inventory tagging, and asset verification.
- Work closely with project managers and procurement teams to track capital work in progress (CWIP) and ensure timely capitalization.
- Assist with capital budgeting and forecasting processes.
Skills and Experience:
- Proven understanding of foundational accounting practices
- Proven ability to work in and optimize data, systems & processes to promote integrity and timeliness of financial transactions and reporting
- Proven ability to develop a deep understanding of operations and the workflow & touch points with which to align to deliver accounting outcomes
- Self-motivated, problem-solving mindset with the ability to act as an agent of change for the organisation
- Exceptional verbal and written communication complimented by interpersonal skills that adapt to target audience horizontally and vertically across the organisation
- Ability to travel
- Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Finance or other relevant discipline
- CPA/CA Certified
- 5 years’ experience in a similar level position
