Position Summary:

The department of Cellular, Molecular, and Genetic Medicine is in search of a Lab and Research Assistant to perform a variety of routine non-technical duties in assisting with research laboratories. This position will help to decommission laboratory space that is no longer in use.  This will include cleaning and sterilizing research equipment to prepare for surplus, disposal of chemicals in accordance with environmental health and safety regulations, and disposal of non-research related items in the space. The position will work independently to resolve most standard issues and refer complex issues to department administration. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist Sr. Administrative Coordinator with operational tasks such as equipment inventory oversite, IT and facilities tickets, and other duties as it relates to laboratory space needs.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with a research laboratory environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, facilities, and safety departments
  • Ability to coordinate tasks related to laboratory decommission
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a hourly employee at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at VCU within laboratories or environmental health and safety

Salary Range: $25
