Duties & Responsibilities:
The VCU Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost envisions a university that works across silos through transdisciplinary research, interdisciplinary curriculum and transformative experiential learning to solve the most intractable or “wicked” societal problems. VCU Convergence weaves together these three domains, creating avenues for all VCU faculty, staff, students and community partners to engage in meaningful, impactful work in enterprise-wide themes: Applied AI for the Public Good, Mental Health, Sustainability, Neuroscience, Neurodegeneration and Health Outcomes. Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) for Convergence provides critical strategic and operational team-based leadership for the VCU Convergence central unit and university-level efforts to increase transdisciplinary research, interdisciplinary curriculum and transformative experiential learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Tenured professor in one of VCU’s schools/colleges
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive administrative leadership experience within higher education
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, change management, and implementing large-scale institutional initiatives
- Exemplary record of peer-reviewed publications, faculty awards signaling national prominence and/or sponsored research
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with executive stakeholders, Board of Visitors, and external constituents
- Proven track record of supervising professional staff and leading high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated strategic and operational leadership experience that sets and maintains high standards in a culture of care and accountability
- Record of success working across multiple disciplines
- Demonstrated record of success mentoring doctoral students and early career faculty
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and experience managing multiple projects/tasks with conflicting deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and online collaboration tools - e.g., Google Docs, and Dropbox
- Experience managing or contributing to long-range planning efforts within an academic or administrative unit
- Understanding of departmental, college, and university policies and procedures, as well as programs of study at VCU, including compliance and accreditation
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience securing federal team-based grants or an understanding of the process and aptitude for doing so
- Administrative experience in a highly complex R1
- Experience with collaborative research, program evaluation, or scholarly projects related to experiential learning.
- Demonstrated experience preparing, coordinating, or contributing to grant proposals, including collaborating with faculty or research staff to align submissions with institutional priorities and sponsor requirements
Salary Range: Up to $190,000
