The VCU Financial Success Center by Virginia Credit Union (FSC) is dedicated to helping our community achieve financial success. It aims to increase the prominence of financial instruction, research, programming and monitoring among the VCU community.

The FSC provides the VCU community with free personal and professional financial education, including assistance and counseling on budgeting, saving, credit, student loan repayment, career transitions and more. It supports all aspects of financial success through solutions, education and research-oriented financial programs that help reduce debt and increase overall financial confidence.

Position Summary:

The VCU Financial Success Center by VACU is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates to apply for the role of Financial Success Program Manager. The primary purpose of the Financial Success Program Manager is to guide and counsel students as it relates to personal finance matters including options to pay for college, financing options with persistence to graduation, budgeting, building credit, and minimizing debt. The Financial Success Program Manager will play an active role in creating a culture of care as a part of the student’s success team by fostering meaningful relationships with students and campus partners to enhance the students’ successful university experience.

The Financial Success Program Manager is expected to maintain a high level of professionalism, accountability and collaboration with various VCU campus partners and departments. The Financial Success Program Manager is expected to assist in coordinating and administering the VCU Financial Success Center’s financial well-being and education services while providing individual financial counseling and outreach programming. The Financial Success Program Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, Graduate Assistant(s) and student staff to help manage the operations of the VCU Financial Success Center by VACU.

Please Note: This is a “restricted position” with funding for one year (with potential for renewal). Employment eligibility after one year is dependent upon successful performance and continued funding.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Student Mentorship & Staff Supervision

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a cohort of undergraduate and graduate Peer Financial Coaches.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one supervision, observations, and performance feedback sessions to ensure coaching quality and adherence to Financial Success Center standards.
  • Manage scheduling, workflow, and daily operations for the peer coaching team.
  • Collaborate with student staff to execute key programmatic initiatives and outreach efforts.
  • Foster a collaborative, student-centered team environment.

Financial Coaching & Education

  • Serve as the Instructor of Record for one section of UNIV 191 Start Smart - Financial Moves for College Success during the fall semester. 
  • Provide individualized financial coaching for VCU students, including maintaining a caseload of one-on-one appointments, including students enrolled in the Career Bridge program and first-generation, low-income student populations.
  • Develop and facilitate financial education programming for students across a range of backgrounds.
  • Deliver engaging workshops and presentations for classrooms, student organizations, campus partners, and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with university partners, including the Career Bridge project care team and other campus stakeholders, to provide holistic student support.
  • Contribute to the university's strategic goals related to student financial wellness.

Outreach, Marketing & Communications

  • Lead the development and implementation of outreach strategies that increase awareness and engagement with Financial Success Center services.
  • Oversee the Center's monthly newsletter and support ongoing digital communications, including social media, marketing campaigns, branding, and other communication materials.
  • Coordinate financial wellness tabling and outreach at high-traffic events across the MCV and Monroe Park campuses.
  • Represent the Financial Success Center at university and community events to strengthen partnerships between VCU and the Richmond community.

Data Analysis, Operations & Program Development

  • Analyze appointment, outreach, and program participation data to identify trends, assess program effectiveness, and inform continuous improvement.
  • Compile outreach and program metrics and provide regular reports on program activities and outcomes.
  • Develop, update, and maintain physical and digital educational resources and operational materials.
  • Attend professional development workshops, webinars, conferences, and training to remain current on financial wellness trends and best practices.
  • Lead or support special projects and strategic initiatives that advance the mission of the Financial Success Center, the School of Business, and university financial wellness efforts.
  • Work on special projects and initiatives as needed to support the School of Business.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Financial Planning, Business, Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of professional experience in financial wellness, financial education, financial coaching, higher education, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal financial planning, financial literacy, and financial coaching principles.
  • Experience developing, facilitating and coordinating programs, projects, events, or outreach initiatives
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, organizational, and project management skills, including experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting program data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel locally within the Richmond area.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising, mentoring, training, or leading student employees, peer educators, interns, or professional staff.
  • Experience managing financial wellness, financial literacy, or student success programs in a higher education setting.
  • Experience developing strategic outreach, marketing, and engagement initiatives, including digital communications and social media.
  • Experience with assessment, program evaluation, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®), or similar credential.
  • Experience working with college students and applying evidence-based financial education and coaching strategies to improve student success.

Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, and may require periodic weekend and evening hours. This position is in-person on the VCU Monroe Park Campus in Richmond, VA.
