Department Summary:
An MD/PhD is sought for a post-doctoral position in the VCU Department of Radiation Oncology/Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center focusing on developing a research project centering on FLASH radiation, a recently developed type of cancer radiotherapy that shows promise for translational and clinical pursuit. The project involves using molecular and cellular methodologies as well as preclinical models for determining the feasibility and further development of translational FLASH neuro-oncology research at VCU.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on experiments using molecular and cellular assays and tools and subsequent data analysis, reporting and presentation
- Manage a small mouse colony and prepare mice for experiments and follow-up data gathering and analysis
- Assist in animal experiments including surgery, FLASH irradiations, and behavioral tests
- Order and manage reagents and experimental supplies
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- MD and/or PhD (or equivalent) in neuroscience/neurology, biology, or a related field, with experience and interest in translational neuroscience and cancer biology
- Demonstrated expertise in the use of preclinical mouse models and hands-on expertise in animal handling, drug preparation and administration, and testing within translational research settings
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Ability to perform Independent research
- Strong quantitative, analytical, or methodological skills
- Evidence of research productivity (e.g., abstracts, presentations, publications)
- Excellent presentation skills
- Work alongside team members
Preferred Qualifications
- Using various advanced imaging approaches
- Solid foundation in experimental design and execution within translational research settings
- Strong record of productivity and teamwork
- Experience or interest in preclinical testing and clinical trials
- Experience with rodent behavioral test
- Candidates with experience in general computational analyses and more specific ones, such as neural systems, are encouraged to apply.
Salary Range: $63,480-$68,480, commensurate with experience
