About this Position

Job Summary: The Capital Asset Accountant (Entry-Level) supports the tracking, accounting, and reporting of the University’s equipment. The position plays a vital role in ensuring that asset management activities comply with applicable university policies, state regulations, and federal reporting requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the daily accounting of equipment acquisitions, transfers, and disposals.
  • Ensure assets are properly tagged and categorized according to university policies.
  • Assist with data entry and updates to the asset management system.
  • Work with Procurement to ensure that capital asset acquisitions are properly identified, recorded, and classified in the university’s accounting system
  • Perform annual physical inventory of all equipment and reconciliation of asset records.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for audits and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate the periodic disposal/sale/auction of unneeded physical assets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's
    • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
    • Must have a basic understanding of accounting principles.
    • Must be detail-oriented and accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping.
    • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with team members.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have basic problem-solving ability.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or part-time experience in accounting, finance, or administrative roles.
  • Familiarity with Banner enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
