About this Position
Job Summary: The Capital Asset Accountant (Entry-Level) supports the tracking, accounting, and reporting of the University’s equipment. The position plays a vital role in ensuring that asset management activities comply with applicable university policies, state regulations, and federal reporting requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the daily accounting of equipment acquisitions, transfers, and disposals.
- Ensure assets are properly tagged and categorized according to university policies.
- Assist with data entry and updates to the asset management system.
- Work with Procurement to ensure that capital asset acquisitions are properly identified, recorded, and classified in the university’s accounting system
- Perform annual physical inventory of all equipment and reconciliation of asset records.
- Assist in preparing documentation for audits and financial reporting.
- Coordinate the periodic disposal/sale/auction of unneeded physical assets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Must have a basic understanding of accounting principles.
- Must be detail-oriented and accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with team members.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
- Must possess strong organizational and time management skills.
- Must have basic problem-solving ability.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or part-time experience in accounting, finance, or administrative roles.
- Familiarity with Banner enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
