$45,000 - $56,000

About this Position

The Coordinator Outdoor Adventure and Leadership will oversee the daily operations of our climbing wall and the challenge course. Enforce policies and procedures for Outdoor Recreation; recommend policy changes to the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventure and Leadership Programs. Research, plan and administer all climbing wall programs and trainings. Research, plan and administer challenge course programing. Maintain equipment and facilities used for the climbing wall and challenge course. Work with the AD of Outdoor Adventure and Leadership to develop and facilitate staff training for the climbing wall and trip programs. Organize and plan local and national trips. Plan and host special events at the climbing wall. Train employees and enforce the OSU OA Work at Heights program for the climbing wall and trips program. Track programming participation and outcomes.

Work with professional organizations (AORE, WEA, NIRSA) to provide national certification opportunities to OSU students. All other duties as assigned. Must occasionally work evenings and weekends with program trips and workshops. This position will require the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform all types of outdoor physical activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's

    Leisure Studies, Recreation Mgmt. or related degree

    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • One year of related work experience

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Wilderness First Aid, CPR/First Aid

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    This position requires a basic knowledge of the climbing wall industry, challenge course technologies, and experiential education. Requires the ability to perform all types of physical outdoor activities including but not limited to: rock and ice climbing, rafting, canoeing or kayaking, biking, paddle boarding, hiking, mountaineering with packs not less than 50 lbs. Prior experience as a trip leader. Demonstrated ability to supervise student staff. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in risk management planning. Demonstrated ability for clear, cogent written and verbal communication. Must be able to lead team building and leadership activities. Must be able to learn and enforce Work at Heights program for climbing wall employees and Trip Leaders. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's

    Health, Leisure and Performance Studies or related area

  • Three years of experience supervising/managing an outdoor recreation program.

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Wilderness First Responder, ACCT level 1 training 

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Knowledge in industry standards, ability to manage program logistics, ability to assess risk management in program areas.
