About this Position

The Assistant Garden Manager is responsible for all aspects of horticultural maintenance at The Botanic Garden which includes garden maintenance, design, planning, planting, irrigation, pesticide applications. Supervision of student employees, working with volunteers/ambassadors, working with the public, landscape management and construction, turf management, organization, scheduling, and working efficiently in a productive manner. The Assistant Garden Manager must work closely with The Botanic Garden Director and the Botanic Garden Manager to meet the horticultural needs of the Botanic Garden.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Horticulture or closely related field
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • One year experience with garden maintenance, installation, and design are required as is an ability to manage undergraduate student workers, interns, volunteers and employees. The assistant garden manager must be able to work in a team environment, cooperating with the TBG director and the garden manager.

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Current valid OK driver's license. Oklahoma pesticide applicator's license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    The successful candidate should possess: Knowledge of garden equipment, machinery, and safety. Knowledge of safe pesticide use and application. Skills in carpentry or light construction. Ability to lead a team as well as work as a team player. Knowledge, skills, and abilities in assigning work tasks and ensuring completion of quality work in a timely manner. Knowledge of computer use and various software programs, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft 365, etc. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse audiences.
