About this Position

The Department of Chemistry and Physical Sciences is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach lower-division courses, including Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry I & II laboratory/lecture support (as needed), Physics, and Physical Science for non-majors. Candidates with a Master’s degree will be considered for lower-division teaching assignments. Applicants holding a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline may also be eligible to teach upper-division coursework based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned undergraduate courses in Chemistry and/or Physical Science.
  • Prepare and deliver course materials, including lectures, assignments, assessments, and laboratory activities (where applicable).
  • Maintain consistent communication with students and provide timely feedback on assignments and exams.
  • Hold office hours (virtual or in-person) for student support.
  • Follow departmental and university guidelines regarding instruction, assessment, and academic policies.
  • Collaborate with full-time faculty as needed to ensure instructional consistency across sections.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's
    • Master's degree in chemistry, Chemistry Education, Physics, Physical Science, or a closely related field.
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated passion for teaching and student success

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment

Preferred Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline (required for teaching upper-division coursework).
  • Prior college-level teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching non-majors and/or introductory STEM courses.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating the success of students from diverse backgrounds.
