Program Description: The ARRT program is housed within the Langston University Department of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies (DRDS), which is situated within the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences. The DRCDS is comprised of eight (8) faculty members, all with the certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) credential, whose expertise and research interests span the field of rehabilitation, counseling, and disability. The Department houses four (4) different NIDILRR funded national centers and post-doctoral training initiatives that conduct a programmatic line of research and research capacity building aimed at eradicating rehabilitation disparities: (1) RRTC on Research and Capacity Building for Minority Entities (five-year $4.375 million), (2) RRTC on Advancing Employment Equity for Multiply Marginalized Persons with Disabilities (five-year $4.666 million), (3) ARRT Solutions-Focused Translational Research to Enhance Equity in Employment Outcomes and Experiences among Multiply Marginalized Persons of Color with Disabilities (five-year $2 million), and (4) ARRT Solutions-Focused Translational Research to Improve Employment Outcomes and Experiences among Individuals with Disabilities from Traditionally Underserved Racial and Ethnic Populations (five-year $750,000). These NIDILRR grants also provide funding support for tuition and stipends to select students/fellows, up-and-coming early-career researchers, in an effort to develop their research skills.

The ARRT postdoctoral program represents a collaborative effort between the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts Boston ([ICI] Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving institution), North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University ([NCA&T] HBCU), South Carolina State University ([SCSU] HBCU), and Jackson State University ([JSU] HBCU). The Program implements a Peer-to-Peer Multiple Mentor Model to help post-doctoral fellows navigate the institutional context and cross-fertilize their independent research project and research grant proposal through exchanges with a primary mentor and a scientific panel of mentors comprised of content experts, multicultural specialists, methodologists, and statisticians.
