About this Position

Grounded in its rich traditions as a historically Black college and university and a land-grant institution,

Langston University offers quality post-secondary education to diverse populations through academic, research, community engagement, extension, and co-curricular experiences that lead to professional competence and degree completion. 

The Resident Director (RD) is responsible for the general management of a student housing community consisting of 300 to 600 residents. The Resident Director is required to reside within their residential area in which the RD oversees. Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students for Residential Life, the Resident Director will supervise and evaluate undergraduate residence life staff.  The RD will be responsible for conflict mediation, student conduct, and programming for assigned buildings and share responsibility for campus-wide training, selection, departmental committees, and on-call coverage.  

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.

    • (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment, as well as demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities, are required. The incumbent will also be required to live in the residence hall for 12 months per year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's

    Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel or Counseling, and/or previous graduate or professional work experience in Residence Life preferred.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment, as well as demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities, are required. The incumbent will also be required to live in the residence hall for 12 months per year.
