About this Position

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all campus facilities, maintenance, custodial, environmental safety, and grounds. This role ensures an efficient, and well-maintained campus environment that supports the institution’s mission. The position is responsible for overseeing construction and maintenance operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading sustainability and energy management initiatives. The Director leads cross-functional teams across facilities, grounds, environmental safety, and custodial; develops and manages departmental budgets, ensures regulatory compliance, and serves as a key partner to university leadership in long-range planning. The Director develops integrated systems, policies, and teams that promote operational excellence, risk mitigation, and a positive campus experience. This position is considered an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to be at work when weather conditions or other special circumstances result in campus closures.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates degree required. Bachelor's Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field from an accredited college preferred (or equivalent years of experience).

Experience:

  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in facilities operations, building construction and maintenance, or safety/security operations.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills in addition to planning and project management skills.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and codes.
  • Ability to handle multiple work priorities simultaneously and work with minimal supervision in a highly self-motivated manner.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of facilities systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, controls, energy systems).
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, ADA, Clery, fire/building codes, and environmental health and safety regulations).
  • Experience in budgeting, capital planning, and contract management.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex operations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with work order systems and standard office/technical equipment and software including but not limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office and other computer-based programs and project-related software.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions to be taken in various building trades.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, assign, and supervise the work of construction and building maintenance technicians, as well as skilled trade personnel.
  • Ability to direct construction from blueprints or drawings.
  • Strong fiscal management, experienced in organizing and coordinating skills; knowledge and skill in planning, organizing resources, scheduling work assignments, and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discreteness in close partnership with Human Resources and other departments as required.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and communicate results and non-technical individuals.
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Position requires that employee be able to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, reach, and walk up and down stairs.  Must have use of all limbs.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor 's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field from an accredited college (or equivalent years of experience) preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous management experience within a higher education institution in the capacity of safety and security, police operations, construction and maintenance or equivalent.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • APPA certification as Institute of Facilities Management Graduate preferred.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • 1-3 years experience with Microsoft Visio, Project and/or AutoDesk (CAD).
