About this Position

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Responsible for processing internal and external scholarships, researching new scholarship opportunities, and applying scholarships to student accounts.  Responsibilities also include adjusting over awards to ensure students do not exceed their cost of attendance budget or notifying the loan coordinator to make loan adjustments created by the over awards.  Acts as a liaison for OSUIT with the OSU Foundation, chair of the scholarship committee, and coordinator for the scholarship banquet.  Additional duties include visiting with students and families on the facets of financial aid, assisting with the R2T4 process, verifying student FAFSA information, resolving conflicting information relating to student’s FAFSA, coordinating billing of scholarships with the bursar, providing billing information to the Director of Accounting Services, and ensuring the timely application of scholarships to student accounts.         

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university required, bachelor degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
  • Two years of relevant experience in higher education, financial services, or similar areas.
  • Experience giving formal presentations or facilitating workshops.
  • Experience with Banner operating system highly preferred.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • Valid driver’s license.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiar with FERPA.
  • Strong computer skills including excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of and the ability to hone skills of basic programming, particularly SQL.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to enhance the use of reporting tools, particularly SAS and Cognos.
  • Strong, highly motivated and detail-oriented work ethic.
  • Strong advocate for OSUIT branding, success and employee loyalty.
  • Good organizational skills and strong problem solving capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to effectively contribute in a dynamic, team environment.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all facets of financial aid to assist students appropriately.
  • A positive “can-do” attitude along with a professional appearance and demeanor should be modeled at all times. 
  • Must have a willingness to continually self-initiate learning to remain current in expertise. 
  • Should be able to quickly grasp and apply training in learning new skills and methods.
  • Must be service oriented with ability to work and respond effectively to diverse audiences of internal and external clients. 
  • Must be flexible, innovative and self-motivated. 

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written communication and listening skills and customer responsiveness are essential.
