About this Position
The Director for the Boone Pickens Legacy Experience (BPLE) is a charismatic and effective leader tasked with overseeing the operations, initiatives and educational outreach of the legacy experience museum. The Director facilitates engaging opportunities for all audiences to explore the museum as well as raise visibility and inspire support.
Serving as a passionate spokesperson, the Director is the key lead for preserving the life and legacy of T. Boone Pickens. They are committed to sharing Boone’s hallmark values of energy independence, entrepreneurship-focused education and small-town values with visitors and key stakeholders, including civic leaders, community groups and prospective donors.
The Director is responsible for maintaining the ongoing operations of the legacy experience and coordinates the BPLE Advisory Committee’s activities and initiatives. The Director also maximizes utilization of museum resources and enacts the vision and strategies for the museum's growth and development.
Other key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that engage audiences with the Museum's collections, exhibitions, and mission, encompassing school tours, family programs, community outreach, and lifelong learning initiatives. The Director executes strategic initiatives that expand the Museum's reach, build meaningful community partnerships, and increase public engagement. They should demonstrate self-direction, creativity and strategic thinking in finding new opportunities to showcase the BPLE.
About the Boone Pickens Legacy Experience: The Boone Pickens Legacy Experience is a world-class exhibit, located in the West End Zone complex at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, OK. The museum offers an immersive experience into the life of Boone Pickens and serves as a tribute to the Cowboy legend featuring stories from Pickens’ remarkable life told through interactive and visually rich exhibits and an expansive collection of artifacts, gifts, awards, mementos and memorabilia amassed over Pickens’ lifetime. The legacy experience inspires audiences of all ages to “Be Like Boone” and learn from his life lessons.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's
Communication, marketing, humanities, liberal arts or related field.
(degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date) -
Five years experience in leading an educational organization, museum/nonprofit or development experience.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Experience in recruiting, retaining and managing full and part-time personnel. Demonstrated comfort and success in dealing with high-profile individuals. Experience with developing and managing budgets. Ability to deal effectively with the public and volunteers. Understanding of social media platforms and website management. Knowledge of database management. Self-starter confident in creating policy and structure for internal and external communication. Excellent communication skills. A deep respect for the life and legacy of T. Boone Pickens. An appreciation for creating education opportunities in a unique immersive experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's

Ten years experience in museum or preservation work and thorough understanding of museum best practices and industry standards. Or CEO experience.

Any combination of education, training, or experience which provides: Understanding of museums, collections, and program management requirements.
