Marriage and Family Therapy

POSITION: The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) at Oklahoma State University invites applications for faculty position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor with a focus in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT). This is a full-time position during the academic year of August-May with an anticipated mid-year start date of January 2027. We seek candidates who demonstrate a commitment to training and supporting the success of the Marriage and Family Therapy program through their instruction, research, extension/outreach, and service responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Teach and provide mentoring in undergraduate and/or graduate courses per semester in the Department of Human Development and Family Science, primarily for the MFT program.

Candidates are also expected to assist with departmental efforts involving undergraduate and graduate student recruitment, retention, and other related service activities.

Engagement in professional development activities and scholarship related to the Department of Human Development and Family Science and instructional excellence.

Assume other responsibilities consistent with the comprehensive land grant mission of OSU.

In addition, the successful candidate will collaboratively participate in ongoing MFT program development including capstone development, MFT faculty and program meetings, MFT program retreats, assisting with accreditation requirements, recruitment efforts and interviewing applicants, serving on committees as needed, and engaging in other MFT-related program activities. Mentor and advise MFT graduate students year-round.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctoral degree in Human Development and Family Science or related focus; ABD doctoral candidates will be considered but the degree must be conferred prior to the official start date.

Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

AAMFT approved supervisor or supervisor candidate designation.

Provide evidence of employment eligibility as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Eligible for the AAMFT Clinical Fellow designation.

LMFT-eligible in the state of Oklahoma.

Demonstrated instructional experience in university, college, and/or professional practice setting; ability to teach using multiple modalities (e.g. online, in-person, hybrid).

Previous experience supervising graduate students in a clinical training environment.

Previous experience as a clinical provider in non-university team environments (agency, non-profit, and/or group practice settings).

Proven ability to engage collaboratively and interact effectively with faculty, students, and administrative personnel.

Demonstrated scholarly and/or field experience involving professional practice or community-engagement.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

HDFS is a vibrant community of scholars with approximately 20 full-time faculty members, 400 undergraduate students, and 90 graduate students. Undergraduate specializations are offered in Child and Family Services, Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and Opportunity Orange Scholars (inclusive post-secondary education for students with intellectual disability). Graduate specializations are offered in Applied Human Services, Developmental and Family Science, Early Childhood Education, and Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT). Recent graduates with terminal degrees (B.S. with the ECE option, M.S. with the MFT and CFS options, and Ph.D.) have experienced near-100% success in finding relevant employment and passing licensing exams. Faculty in HDFS have active programs of research and currently have projects funded by diverse State and Federal entities including NIH, USDA, and NSF.

The department has established several outstanding centers and clinics, including the Child Development Laboratory, the Center for Family Resilience, the Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic, Center for Developmental Disabilities, and the Center for Family Research and Engagement. Consistent with the land-grant emphasis on scholarship dissemination, members of the faculty work with community partners in regional agencies and with Cooperative Extension educators in all 77 counties in Oklahoma. Additionally, Oklahoma ranks fifth in the country for Pre-K access for 4-year-olds, according to the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER).
