About this Position

The Langston University Police Department is now accepting applications for a full-time dispatch position. The Dispatcher is responsible for simultaneously operating a multi-channel radio console and a multi-line telephone, while maintaining computer-aided dispatch systems and other computer systems.  Responsible for receiving, coordinating and disseminating critical information from various sources and maintaining radio contact with mobile/field units to monitor response, progress and any needed support.  This position works in the communications center of the police station which is responsible for answering emergency calls.

Working Conditions

This position is based in a fast-paced, office environment using phones, computers, and radio systems. Dispatchers work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support 24/7 operations. The role requires long periods of sitting, multitasking, and maintaining focus under pressure. Clear communication, quick decision-making, and emotional resilience are essential. Occasional high-stress situations may occur, especially when handling urgent or emergency requests.
