Work that matters 

The Research Assistant will contribute to research efforts of the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) 2024 Maternal Health and Healthy Lifestyles grant scheme for RECLAIM: An RCT to test the clinical and cost-effectiveness of a new treatment to reduce the risk of developing chronic post-surgical pain following total knee replacement surgery.

You will support the development and delivery of clinical research by assisting with study protocols, ethics and governance applications, and annual reporting. You will contribute to setting up and piloting surveys in data collection systems, monitor recruitment across study sites, and coordinate data collection and follow-up evaluations.

You will also support intervention delivery by assisting with treatment scheduling and monitoring provision, while contributing to data cleaning, analysis, and the preparation of manuscripts and research outputs.

The team

The role will work closely with the Persistent Pain Research Group (PPRG), based out of City West Campus at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). PPRG is a vibrant group of 14 postdoctoral fellows, PhD candidates, and research assistants, led by Professor Tasha Stanton, who undertake research into chronic pain and pain science. PPRG is also part of the IIMPACT in Health Research Concentration of Adelaide University, which includes over 100 members from a range of allied health backgrounds, and thus the candidate will be exposed to wide spectrum of research topics and methodologies. As part of the project, the candidate will also work closely with clinical partners, including orthopaedic specialists with the Central Adelaide Local Health Network, clinical trialists across the world, and pain science experts.

Experience

To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following qualifications, skills and experience: 

• Masters Degree or Specialisation in Neuroscience and Health, with allied health clinical training (physiotherapist, exercise physiologist, etc.)
• Research and/or clinical experience in sensorimotor interventions, body perceptual impairment, and post-surgical rehabilitation in people with painful knee osteoarthritis.
• Experience with survey data collection software (e.g., REDCap)
• Strong and increasing record of research achievement as demonstrated by publications, conference papers and other research activities, commensurate with opportunity.
• High-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information effectively and clearly to a wide audience and a variety of stakeholders (e.g. conference presentations), including writing for publication.
• Demonstrated experience and ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse and multi- disciplinary research team as well as work independently.
• High-level problem solving and organisational skills to manage competing demands and meet project timelines, including the coordination of research activities.

Desirable

• A PhD in allied health, health sciences or population health.
• The ability to independently develop research proposals.
