Common Core Opportunities (Casual) – Semester 1, 2027
Job no: 493665
Work type: Casual
Location: Adelaide CBD
Categories: Casual Campaign
At Adelaide University, we create the opportunities you need to achieve your ambitions – because when you thrive, we thrive.
This Registration of Interest (RoI) process is for applicants wishing to be considered for work in the Common Core by way of issuance of a casual contract. Applications welcomed from Australian or NZ citizens, Australian permanent residents and those who have the legal right to work in Australia for the term of appointment.
Opportunities for Adelaide University staff employed in continuing and fixed-term positions are offered through negotiated workload release arrangements (rather than casual contract) and are being managed via a separate process.
Work that matters
The Common Core are a defining feature of the Adelaide University curriculum architecture and a flagship component of our collective commitment to transformative education.
Embedded within every year of undergraduate study, the Common Core provides students with opportunities to explore contemporary issues, engage with diverse perspectives, and develop the capabilities needed to thrive in professional, civic, and global contexts. It is an industry-informed, interdisciplinary learning experience that invests in the human qualities most valued by employers and communities alike: curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, self-leadership, and collaboration.
Selecting a Common Core course from one of six knowledge areas enables students to broaden their perspectives and build capabilities that complement their chosen degree. For more information about the Common Core, please visit our webpage.
We seek experienced, curious, and passionate folk to join our Semester 1 2027 Common Core Teaching Teams. These are vibrant communities of practice that support peer learning, innovation, and foster a shared commitment to student success.
What do our Commons Workshop Facilitators do?
Our Facilitators:
- Lead activity- and discussion-based workshops that promote participation, inquiry, collaboration, and student-led learning.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and welcoming space where diverse perspectives are valued and students feel confident contributing.
- Tailor approaches to accommodate different backgrounds, abilities, confidence levels, and emerging student needs.
- Use questioning, discussion, and real-world examples to help students analyse complex issues, evaluate evidence, navigate ambiguity, and develop practical solutions.
- Bring curiosity, flexibility, and a willingness to learn, drawing on relevant experience and experimenting with new approaches to enhance student learning.
In each of our courses, students work through a carefully curated set of materials on our course sites before attending a 2-hour Commons Workshop. Our workshop activities are designed to support curiosity, creativity and informed risk-taking through carefully scaffolded experiences and formative feedback opportunities. Common Core courses use a Non-Graded Pass model to create a learning environment focused on curiosity, exploration, and growth. Students are encouraged to take intellectual risks, engage with diverse perspectives, reflect on their learning, and develop the capabilities needed to leverage their learning in the course.
Our Common Core Courses are:
- An Ethically Rich Life (CORE X001)
- Fact or Fiction: Data for Everyone (CORE X002)
- Igniting Change: Ideas to Action (CORE X003)
- Transforming Learning through First Nations Knowledges (CORE X004)
- Responsible AI: Bridging Ethics, Education and Industry (CORE X005)
- Building Belonging: Navigating Cultural Complexities (CORE X006)
When applying, you will be invited to rank, in order of preference, the three courses for which you would like to be considered. Before crafting your cover letter, please review the Expectations of Commons Workshop Facilitators Semester 1 2027.
