Overview

The Canberra news team is looking for an enthusiastic News Operations Assistant to assist with radio and TV news bulletins. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Monitoring, recording and transferring audio items for radio news bulletins;
• Assisting the producer and director in compiling the 7pm TV news bulletin ensuring details are entered accurately and quickly into the television air queue;
• Monitoring relevant wires and email queues;
• Collect and compile weather and sports data from relevant websites;
• Various clerical and office administration duties may also be required.

Selection Criteria:

1. An interest in News.
2. An understanding of radio and TV production processes and relevant broadcast technology systems and equipment including Netia and iNews would be an advantage.
3. An interest in and ability to adapt to new technologies, with excellent word processing skills.
4. Good communication, spelling and grammar skills.
5. An ability to handle pressure and cope with unexpected situations during live programs with flexibility and initiative.
6. Ability to work as a member of a small team and accept direction.
7. An awareness and understanding of the ABC’s Editorial Policies and OH&S guidelines.
