About the Opportunity
We are seeking a commercially astute and proactive Commercial Contract Specialist to support our New Zealand Facility Management division, partnering closely with the business to protect margin, strengthen governance, and enable sustainable growth. You will provide commercial, compliance and governance support to the Contract Manager responsible for Public Private Partnerships (PPP) to maximise long-term outcomes and ensure commercial matters are handled effectively and efficiently.
This is a unique role ideally suited to someone with a commercial/financial and/or legal background who enjoys turning complex contract requirements into practical, well-governed operational outcomes. Working in a high-trust partnering model, you will provide analytical insight, pricing support, and contract expertise across contract retention, contract acquisition, and day-to-day commercial delivery within our PPP environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercial, compliance and governance support to the PPP contract, ensuring Programmed’s position is protected and long-term outcomes are maximised.
- Partner with Operations and Finance to ensure contract obligations are delivered, invoiced and accurately reflected in monthly financial results.
- Deliver clear, timely reporting across commercial performance, compliance, and contract outcomes.
- Support issue resolution through analysis, reconciliations, process validation, and stakeholder query management.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance margin, strengthen compliance, and improve efficiency.
- Maintain robust commercial documentation and knowledge systems to support consistency, audit readiness, and effective governance.
- Lead and support contract change processes (CNs/Directives), including evaluation, pricing, negotiation, and handover to Operations and Finance.
- Coordinate with internal and external legal stakeholders to ensure timely, commercially sound contract advice and amendments.
- Contribute to commercial negotiations, pricing discussions, and delivery alignment across approved programs of work.
- Support contract retention and new business by providing analytical insight, pricing support, and commercial expertise.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong mix of analytical capability, commercial judgement, and practical contract interpretation, translating complex requirements into clear actions, defensible pricing, and fit-for-purpose governance.
Additionally, you will demonstrate and possess the following:
- Background in commercial/finance and/or legal (degree and/or equivalent experience), with exposure to pricing, governance, risk, and contract administration considered advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interrogate financial and operational data, reconcile variances, and support fact-based decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and apply contracts—ideally within a services, infrastructure, facilities management, or PPP setting.
- Clear, confident communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to resolve issues cooperatively and influence outcomes across cross-functional teams.
- Strong organisation and follow-through—self-motivated, able to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate outputs on time.
- A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to embed change constructively and lift commercial maturity through better processes, templates, and ways of working.
- Alignment with our core values: Safety Leadership, Care & Empathy, Customer Service, and Diversity, Inclusion & Equality.
