The Project

CPB Contractors will be delivering a new construction project in the Northwest of WA for Defence. The overall project is more than 2 years in duration, involving significant construction upgrades to airfield asphalt pavements and related infrastructure assets.

Your opportunity

We are seeking high-performing Final Trim Operators to join our team delivering critical infrastructure upgrades on a major Defence sector project in regional Western Australia.

This is an opportunity for experienced operators who take pride in precision work, can operate with tight tolerances, and thrive in a high-standards construction environment.

About the Role

You will be responsible for carrying out detailed and final trim works across Service installations, Airfield Pavements and MRWA-spec granular pavements, supporting the delivery of runways, taxiways, hardstands and heavy-duty access roads.

Successful candidates will excel in their field and be able to confidently operate either Excavators, Posi Tracks and Front End Loaders, freehand or with the assistance GPS machine control at all times working to millimetre level accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform final trim operations freehand or using GPS machine control (Topcon/Trimble), delivering works to stringent airfield and MRWA tolerances.
  • Execute detailed trimming, including shaping, matching, and blending granular pavement layers.
  • Pick up, load, and push out granular pavement windrows, ensuring consistent levels, uniform thickness, and clean work edges.
  • Conduct precise subgrade trimming, boxing out, batter works, and preparation for pavement layers.
  • Operate final trim earthmoving efficiently and safely to achieve required production and quality outcomes.
  • Work closely with Supervision, Leading hands, surveyors, and engineers to complete works accurately from drawing or digital models.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards neat, clean, professional work at all times.
  • Follow all site safety processes, including Defence and project-specific requirements.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a final trim operator in major civil, road, or airfield projects.
  • Competency in GPS machine control (UTS/LPS highly regarded).
  • Demonstrated ability to trim to tight tolerances in granular pavements, subgrades, and detailed excavation.
  • Strong understanding of MRWA specs, airfield pavement requirements, and granular material behaviour.
  • Confident operating either Excavator, Posi Track and Front End Loader in production and precision environments.
  • FIFO experience and ability to work effectively in a remote, high-performance team.
  • Ability to pass Defence security requirements and project medical assessments.
  • Plant Operator tickets (RII Coded) – multi-ticketed desirable
  • HR Drivers Licence
  • PTD Endorsement Highly Desirable
