Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the 130km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.
HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.
The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

Key Accountabilities
As the Safety Manager you will play a key role in leading project safety, compliance, and performance across all project activities of HumeLink West project. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting and interpreting audits and compliance reviews.
- Training and competency in high‑risk activities (Working at Heights, Confined Space, Rescue Training).
- Ability to develop, analyse and report on complex project performance, compliance, defects, and non-conformances.
- Detailed knowledge and advanced experience in project management, planning, budgeting, and cost control.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
- Strong analytical reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen.
What are we looking for you to bring to the team:
- Tertiary (Bachelor) degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Project Management, Building, Construction, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years post‑graduate experience.
- Experience in rail, transport, construction, mining & resources, or engineering industries (project-based experience preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of Comcare legislative requirements and all relevant Australian Standards.
- Knowledge of safety legislation and statutes, with the ability to interpret and apply them to project activities.
- Experience using Safety & Rehabilitation Management Systems.
Where applicable, evidence of tertiary qualifications and proof of right to work will be required prior to successful appointment.
