We hire for careers, not project life. CPB Contractors has more than 50 major infrastructure projects in delivery, across all key sectors of the construction industry, including roads and bridges, rail, tunnelling, defence, airports, buildings and resources, providing you with career opportunities for years to come.

The Project

The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail (LGC) Project will double the number of rail tracks and upgrade stations for a section of the Gold Coast Line from Kuraby, a suburb approximately 16km south of Brisbane’s CBD, to Beenleigh, a suburb of Logan City.

Key elements of the project scope include:

  • Approximately 20km of new tracks and rail systems between Kuraby and Beenleigh stations, increasing the corridor from two to four tracks, including reconstruction of more than half the existing alignment
  • Station upgrades to improve accessibility, safety and amenity, including platform straightening, and new pedestrian bridges
  • Decommissioning of the existing Loganlea Station and tie-in of new track alignment to the new Loganlea station (which will be constructed as part of a separate project)
  • Level crossing removals at Kuraby, Woodridge, Bethania and Holmview
  • Park 'n' ride upgrades including a new carpark at Beenleigh Station
  • Extension of the cattle siding at Holmview
  • Active transport facilities and paths along the majority of the corridor
  • Readiness for a European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 signalling system

Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Possessions Manager, your main responsibility is to manage a team of Protection Officers to deliver safe, cost effective, timely and high-quality service to meet customer business needs. Implement track possession authorities and perform the duties of Possession Protection Officer.

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Schedule Protection Officers to ensure construction disruptions don’t interfere with train schedules
  • Inspect how workers are setting up safe zones near the track to ensure train operations can proceed safely
  • Organise contingency measures when an incident disrupts planned operations or train movements
  • Review communications between field workers and Train Controllers to ensure clarity and effective operation
  • Perform safety briefings before work commences
  • Ensure protection equipment (e.g. flags, detonators, lights) is regularly inspected, maintained, and ready for deployment at all worksites
  • Actively assist Protection Officers or work teams to solve unexpected challenges on-site, such as environmental risks, equipment malfunctions, or logistical delays
  • Monitor and manage corridor access permits to ensure compliance with Queensland Rail standard
  • Liaise daily with Corridor Access team members to secure safe access for works on or near the track
  • Participate actively in audits, reviews, and inspections, addressing non-compliance and contributing to the improvement of safeworking practices

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Extensive experience in rail operations, safeworking practices, and track possession management within QR or similar organisations
  • Extensive experience conducting safeworking audits, inspections, and compliance reporting
  • Experience liaising with stakeholders such as Train Controllers, Service Planning teams, and contractors
  • Prior experience in managing incidents, emergencies, and risk mitigation in rail-related activities
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland Rail Safeworking rules, QNRP, and Workplace Health and Safety legislation
  • Excellent leadership and organisational skills to manage staff, resources, and operational plans effectively
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in documentation, reporting, and maintaining compliance records.
  • Competency in planning, scheduling, and optimizing resource allocation for rail safety operation
  • Resilient and able to remain effective in fast-paced, high-pressure environments with constant changes
