The Project
The CPB Contractors, Ghella & UGL joint venture has been successful in securing the contract to deliver the $3.1bn M6 Stage 1 project. The project will deliver the missing link from Sydney’s south to the wider Sydney motorway network making journeys easier, faster and safer. It will remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads and help return local streets to local communities.
With works commenced in early 2022, the M6 Stage 1 project scope includes the construction of twin four-kilometre tunnels and associated works, linking the M8 Motorway at Arncliffe to President Avenue at Kogarah.
The Opportunity
We currently have an opportunity for a Construction Legal Counsel for a 12-month fixed term contract with an opportunity to extend subject to project demands.
The role is based in our project head office in Mascot, with flexibility options. We are also open to considering part-time candidates, working 3 or 4 days per week.
Reporting to the Project’s Senior Legal Counsel, the responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to the following:
- Providing pragmatic and timely legal advice within a commercial setting to all areas of the Project, including commercial, environmental, HR, planning & safety teams
- Supporting the engagement and collaboration of strategic suppliers and subcontractors
- Reviewing, negotiating and drafting contracts
- Monitoring changes and developments in the legal and regulatory environment that the JV operates within and developing appropriate strategies on a proactive basis
- Managing key relationships, including with the client and parent company legal teams & addressing stakeholder complaints
- Assisting in resolution of disputes, advising on claims and assisting in management of litigation, including with the client, suppliers and regulators
- Management and escalation of insurance claims
- Providing ongoing development of policies and training to Project team in key areas such as Contract Law, Security of Payment, Competition Law and other training that may be required from time to time
About You
- Bachelor of Law (LLB or equivalent) and current Australian practising certificate are essential
- A minimum of 5 years PQE with a focus on major infrastructure projects
- Advanced knowledge of the legal aspects of construction projects
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.
