About the role

Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for payroll compliance and a keen eye for accuracy? Thiess is seeking a dedicated Payroll Compliance Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this crucial role, you'll be the guardian of our payroll processes, ensuring they align seamlessly with legal, regulatory, and company standards. Your expertise will be instrumental in conducting thorough audits, analysing complex payroll data, and identifying discrepancies. As a proactive problem-solver, you'll not only pinpoint issues but also recommend innovative solutions to enhance our payroll operations. Additionally, you will:

  • Ensure payroll compliance through monitoring, auditing, and analysing processes, implementing corrective actions, and staying updated on relevant legislation and regulations. 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align payroll compliance processes, support the development of policies and procedures, and maintain governance documents on the Thiess Governance System (TGS). 

  • Analyse complex pay queries, provide timely resolutions, and identify process improvement opportunities to drive continuous improvement and automation throughout the end-to-end time & attendance / payroll process. 

  • Support payroll leaders with reports, reconciliations, and audits, while testing the efficacy of automated and manual controls to mitigate compliance risks. 

  • Develop detailed process maps and work instructions for the payroll function, and deliver regular training and upskilling programs for payroll team members and site/HR personnel as required.

 

About you

You are a detail-oriented payroll professional with a strong understanding of payroll and time and attendance systems, capable of configuring them to meet business needs. Experience with Oracle HRIS and/or Preceda payroll is a plus. You excel at analysing data and trends to generate actionable insights and have a solid grasp of the risks associated with payroll operations, implementing effective mitigation strategies. 

 

Your expertise in interpreting legislation, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements ensures compliance through appropriate systems configuration and process design. With a working knowledge of the Fair Work Act and other relevant regulations, you stay current with industry standards. Your exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with strong communication and interpersonal abilities, enable you to engage effectively with stakeholders and drive continuous improvement in payroll processes.

Additionally, you have:

  • Business and/or HR Degree, or equivalent qualifications / experience 

  • 2 to 5 years' experience in E2E payroll management in medium / large organisations 

  • Demonstrated experience in working in a similar payroll compliance role 

  • Experience dealing with highly complex payroll issues 

  • Proficient in MS Office, including MS Excel to Intermediate standard (minimum)
