The Eva Copper Mine Project is located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People in North West Queensland, approximately 75 km north-west of Cloncurry and about 95 km north-east of Mount Isa.
The Project is an iron-oxide copper-gold resource featuring multiple open pits and is poised to become the largest greenfield copper mine in Queensland.

The opportunity
Are you a Project Engineer with a drive for technical excellence, strong operational oversight, and effective team coordination? Thiess is seeking a proactive engineering professional to support and optimise drill and blast operations at the Eva Copper Mine Project in the Cloncurry region.
As an integral member of the Eva Copper Alliance team, you will provide engineering support to ensure safe, efficient and compliant civil operations across the project. You will help drive consistent performance aligned with construction and production targets, uphold Thiess’ standards of operational excellence, and ensure all onsite activities meet Thiess and broader industry requirements.
Working an 14/7 roster and reporting to the Senior Project Engineer, you will work collaboratively to deliver high-quality plans and designs for our civil works, your duties will include:
- Design civil construction components for both permanent and temporary works.
- Coordinate with clients and/or subcontractors to ensure work is carried out in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and scheduled dates.
- Collaborate with the Senior Project Engineer to improve processes and clarify design requirements.
- Ensure civil operations are executed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Perform quality management representative duties.
- Provide daily reports on progress, non-compliance, and work delays to the Senior Project Engineer.
- Conduct regular job site inspections to assess performance and compliance with project standards.
- Actively monitor the work environment for potential hazards and address risks.
- Support quality and safety audits.
- Assist with contract management tasks.
- Contribute to estimating and tendering processes.
- Implement technical and safety requirements for the project.
- Oversee daily quality control procedures.
- Monitor daily production, costs, and schedule adherence.
- Actively participate in and contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of work practices.
- Manage your direct reports to ensure compliance with safety, quality, program and cost requirements.
- Provide mentoring to your reports for encouraging career progression
About you
As a successful applicant, you’ll be a high-achieving team-focused individual who enjoys delivering results in a dynamic environment. Your exceptional relationship-building skills coupled with your ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders will also ensure your success in this role.
You will also have:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in civil construction projects, preferably in a mining environment, with tailings experience preferred
- In-depth understanding of OHS legislation and regulations, including contractual, quality requirements, safety standards, and knowledge of industry construction processes and methodologies.
- A valid Australian driver’s licence.
- Possession of a White Card.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate to advanced competency.
