The Eva Copper Mine Project is located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People in North West Queensland, approximately 75 km north-west of Cloncurry and about 95 km north-east of Mount Isa. 

The Project is an iron-oxide copper-gold resource featuring multiple open pits and is poised to become the largest greenfield copper mine in Queensland.

The opportunity: 

Roster: 8 Day On, 6 Days Off | Location: Eva Copper, Queensland | Employment Type: Fulltime

Thiess is seeking a Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Eva Copper Mine Project in the Cloncurry region of Queensland, Australia.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, your duties will include:    

Mine Planning and Design

• Develop practical, compliant mine designs from shift to 3‑month horizons.
• Align designs with approved medium‑range plans and highlight required changes when site conditions differ.
• Optimise haul road layouts and dumping strategies for cost‑efficient haulage.
• Complete regular pit inspections with Mining Supervisors to confirm compliance with design intent.
• Review design non‑conformances and operational issues, then update and reissue designs as needed.
• Use planning systems and reporting tools to produce accurate technical outputs.

Scheduling

• Develop daily, weekly and monthly mining schedules that meet Client and Contract requirements.
• Ensure schedules reflect fleet interactions and operational constraints to support safe, efficient execution.
• Analyse production performance and recommend sequence changes to stay on target.
• Prepare monthly estimates for trucking and material movement.
• Collate and reconcile daily production data, checking for anomalies and validating accuracy.
• Work closely with Mining and Maintenance teams to ensure planning assumptions match operational capability.
• Coordinate with broader mine planning support teams to maintain schedule accuracy and alignment.

About you 

• 3+ years’ experience in a Mining technical role 
• Proven experience in open-cut hard rock mining 
• Understanding of reporting and reconciliation processes
• Understanding of mining principles, design concepts and operations (particularly their relation to drill and blast and data reconciliation activities)
• Proficient in Vulcan/Deswik, CAD and MS Office tools
• Understanding of how technical outcomes impact financial results
• Knowledge of the relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines and Australian standards
• Well-developed written and oral communication skills
