The Opportunity

Thiess is seeking experienced and motivated Leading Hand Fabrication to join our high-performing team at Batam Rebuild Centre.

The Leading Hand Fabrication is responsible for leading and coordinating daily welding and fabrication activities to ensure all repairs, rebuilds, modifications and manufacturing works are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the required quality standards.

The role provides frontline leadership to welding and fabrication personnel, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, welding procedures, quality requirements, and Thiess safety standards while driving productivity, workforce development, and continuous improvement initiatives

As the Leading Hand Fabrication, you will:

  • Coordinate and allocate daily tasks to welding and fabrication personnel.
  • Prioritise work activities to achieve production schedules.
  • Verify readiness of manpower, equipment, materials and consumables before work execution.
  • Stop work activities when unsafe conditions, quality concerns or non-compliance issues are identified.
  • Escalate technical, quality or resource constraints to the relevant Supervisor.

 

About you

  • Senior High School / Vocational School (Mechanical Engineering, Welding or equivalent).
  • Trade qualification in Welding, Fabrication, Boilermaking or equivalent discipline preferred.
  • Welding certification preferred.
  • Supervisory or leadership training advantageous.
  • Strong leadership capability in fabrication and welding workshop environments.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
  • Experience supervising structural repairs of heavy mining equipment and components.
  • Working knowledge of welding procedures (WPS), inspection requirements and fabrication standards.
  • Ability to mentor and develop welding personnel.
  • Commitment to Thiess safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Flexible to support urgent customer requirements and production demands.
