We’re seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Geotechnical team on a permanent basis. This position operates on an 8 days on / 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in developing and managing CPM’s Tailings Management System and providing timely, high-quality geotechnical support across our operations ensuring alignment with best practice and Australian mining standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and report on the condition of our TSFs using data from inspections, seismic and deformation monitoring (e.g., InSAR, radar, survey prisms, drone surveys, piezometers, deposition rates).
  • Ensure accurate, timely collection and validation of geotechnical data to meet required standards.
  • Investigate and report geotechnical incidents or TARP trigger events with urgency and accuracy.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure the Tailings Management Plan, OMS manual, and related procedures are effectively implemented and maintained.
  • Provide training and technical support to Operational Technicians, Geotechnical Monitoring Technicians, and Emergency Response teams.
  • Work with the site teams and design engineer to develop and execute short- and long-term construction and maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Work with the consultant to continuously improve and implement the quality assurance and control, construction monitoring, and dam surveillance programs.
  • Coordinate activities with Consultants, Processing, Environmental, H&S, contractors and Government Regulators as required.
  • Provide updates to operating, maintenance, and surveillance manuals, along with emergency preparedness and response plans, and other management system documents.

About you

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering.
  • Previous geotechnical experience in tailings storage facilities including design, construction, operation, monitoring and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience with defining project scope, working across a range of disciplines and navigating organisational complexity.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Vulcan, and familiarity with geotechnical/Civil software including Autocad, Civil 3D, Muk3D, or similar.
