The Investments & Treasury Division is responsible for managing the University’s cash and liquidity, including short and long-term investments, foreign currency, debt portfolio, management of the credit rating (currently Aa1 with Moody’s), capital allocation strategies and capital raising with a focus on the University’s ongoing financial performance and ability to optimise the use of capital to invest in campus infrastructure and assets.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to drive the University's investment strategy and capital initiatives. As the Deputy Director, Investments, reporting to the Director of Investments and Treasurer, you will lead the Capital Investment team in providing high-level financial, commercial, and strategic advice to University leadership.
Your expertise will drive major investment decisions, ensuring robust financial analysis, the development of compelling investment cases, and the successful execution of complex transactions. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a complex strategic function, ensuring performance aligns with University priorities
- Provide leading advice on financial and funding mechanisms for projects and precincts
- Provide expert commercial and strategic advice to support key University initiatives and investment through reports, briefings, and presentations for key stakeholders
- Oversee financial workstream in business case development for infrastructure projects
- Lead and develop a high-performing team with expertise in financial modelling and customer focus
About You
- Postgraduate qualification with extensive senior management experience in a complex environment
- Exceptional leadership and management skills, enabling you to provide authoritative technical and policy advice at senior levels
- Exceptional commercial acumen, with a deep understanding of financial modelling, research, and analysis, particularly in Excel
- Proven ability to navigate complex organisational structures, demonstrating managerial excellence in matrixed environments
- Outstanding planning and organisational skills, you can set priorities, allocate resources, and meet tight deadlines while managing competing demands
- Extensive experience building, motivating, and developing high-performing teams
