About the Role
The Group Financial Controller is a key leadership position within the Corporate Finance Division. Reporting to the Deputy CFO and Executive Director, Corporate Finance, the role leads the Group Accounting team and provides expert financial reporting, accounting policy and compliance services across Monash’s Australian and international operations. This high-profile role has direct exposure to senior University executives, supporting decision-making through expert technical advice, accurate reporting, and analysis. It oversees the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, manages the external audit process, and ensures full compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and public sector reporting requirements. The role also contributes to major projects and initiatives, particularly those involving complex transactions, new entities, and international investments. With responsibility for a team of 15, it drives high performance, capability development and process improvement.
About You
You are a CA or CPA-qualified outcome-driven finance leader with deep expertise in financial reporting, consolidations and accounting standards application ideally gained in Big 4 Audit and cemented in senior roles or secondments within large, complex organisations. You are a trusted adviser and strategic thinker, confident working with executive leaders, boards and governance committees and enjoy building strong relationships and looking to add value and bring best practice.
