The Opportunity

We are seeking two passionate researchers to join the team as a Senior Research Fellow or Associate Professor (Research) and advance strategic rural health research in workforce recruitment and retention, models of care and healthy populations. These roles involve collaborating with a distributed team of rural health researchers to grow research capacity, attract strategic funding and deliver outcomes that improve health for rural communities nationally and internationally. Both positions will support research an evidence for rural First Nations communities, health services, clinicians, peak bodies and policy stakeholders while contributing to sustainable models of rural practice and training for medicine, nursing and allied health disciplines.

These positions offer an exciting opportunity to lead major research projects, manage research teams and build collaborative partnerships across academic, clinical and policy settings. Successful appointees will help shape the group’s research direction, produce high-quality publications and presentations, and supervise and mentor research staff and postgraduate students. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthening links with external partners, these roles ensure research outcomes have meaningful impact for rural health services and communities.

Both roles require a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience, with a strong research profile and significant experience leading large research projects or teams. Candidates should have a proven track record of publishing in high-quality international journals, generating research income and supervising honours and postgraduate research. Strong skills in managing research governance and funding, along with a deep understanding of rural health education and workforce issues, including First Nations communities are also  essential.

If you are motivated to advance research that improves rural health outcomes, we encourage you to apply.

Please indicate your preference for Level C or Level D in your cover letter, as appointments will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Travelling to various University campuses may be part of the position, and possessing a valid driver's license is crucial for performing the responsibilities.
