The Opportunity

Monash University is seeking a visionary Senior Manager, Content Strategy to define and drive the strategic direction of content across one of Australia’s most prestigious universities. This is more than a content leadership role; it is an opportunity to shape reputation, recruitment, engagement, and the University’s broader strategic priorities through world-class content.

Operating in a complex, federated environment, you will act as a strategic leader and partner, working across faculties, portfolios, and executive teams to translate institutional strategy into clear, audience-focused content priorities. You will challenge briefs, balance risk and ambition, and ensure every piece of content serves a measurable purpose. Your influence will extend across high-stakes decisions, helping the University move from reactive, siloed content production to planned, performance-driven storytelling that delivers impact at scale.

You will lead and inspire a talented team of content creators, fostering strategic thinking, innovation, and collaboration. By embedding the University’s Content Hub operating model, you will champion consistent processes, governance, and measurement, creating clarity and efficiency across the University’s content ecosystem.

If you are a senior leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, creativity, and influence, this role offers a unique platform to shape how Monash tells its story to the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Content Leadership:

    • Set the vision and strategic direction for content across priority audiences, programs, and platforms, aligned to University goals and brand positioning.

    • Act as a senior strategic partner, reframing requests into clear audience challenges and recommending priority, scope, and approach.

    • Challenge briefs, balance ambition, risk, resourcing, and impact, and drive focused outcomes.
Lead the development of integrated content strategies, frameworks, and calendars that support both major initiatives and ongoing activity.

  • Stakeholder Influence: Build alignment and trust across faculties, portfolios, and executive teams; navigate competing priorities and high-visibility decisions.
Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing content team, lifting strategic capability and fostering accountability, innovation, and collaboration.

  • Content Hub and Performance: Embed planning, governance, and performance-led ways of working; measure content impact, optimise strategies, and manage reputational risk.

  • Tools and Innovation: Oversee content platforms, champion AI and automation, and ensure tools support strategy and behaviour, not just production volume.

About You

  • 10+ years’ experience leading content strategy in large, complex organisations.

  • Demonstrated ability to set and lead a strategic, audience-led content vision across priority audiences, programs, and platforms, aligned with organisational goals and brand positioning, and delivered through integrated strategies, frameworks, and editorial calendars.

  • Proven experience acting as a senior strategic partner to leaders and stakeholders, reframing requests into clear audience challenges, constructively challenging briefs, and influencing priorities, scope, and approach without direct authority.

  • Ability to balance ambition, risk, resourcing, and impact to drive focused, high-value outcomes in high-visibility, high-stakes environments.

  • Expertise in content performance measurement, optimisation, and continuous improvement.

  • Strong people leadership experience with a demonstrated track record of capability building and team development.
