The Senior Laboratory Technician is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of the Faculty’s science-based laboratories, ensuring they function as dynamic, well-resourced environments that enable high-quality teaching, learning and research. This position exists to drive the effective coordination of laboratory activities, uphold robust laboratory standards and support the delivery of safe, engaging and contemporary scientific education across multiple campuses.
The role provides essential coordination of laboratory operations, ensuring scientific activities are efficiently organised and well supported across campuses. In this role, you will prepare and resource practical sessions, offer technical guidance to staff and students, and maintain accurate inventories and ensure adherence to equipment standards. You will also construct specialised apparatus, apply safe laboratory practices, and contribute to continual improvements that enhance the quality of laboratory-based learning.
As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate strong technical expertise in laboratory operations, including proficiency in maintaining scientific equipment, preparing complex solutions and materials, and applying rigorous safety and compliance practices. You will bring proven experience in supporting laboratory-based teaching, alongside well-developed analytical, organisational and troubleshooting skills that enable you to manage resources effectively and apply emerging laboratory technologies to enhance scientific learning environments.
