The Opportunity

The National Addiction and Mental Health Surveillance Unit (NAMHSU) is leading a Medical Research Future Fund–supported program (2026–2030) to strengthen evidence on addiction, self-harm and mental ill health. The multidisciplinary study will analyse 20 years of binational cohort and cross-sectional data, link administrative datasets, and establish a new cohort. It will examine how alcohol availability affects adolescent and young adult health, informing policy, services and economic responses.

An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Fellow to support the design and delivery of this complex program, ensuring rigorous methodology, data integration and high-quality outputs. The role includes managing large linked datasets, preparing ethics and governance documentation, coordinating milestones across investigators, engaging stakeholders and a Community Advisory Group and contributing to publications and reports to ensure timely project delivery.

We are seeking a candidate with a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent multidisciplinary research experience. Strong expertise in data collection, management and advanced analysis is essential, alongside a proven publication record, proficiency in Stata and Microsoft Office, and the capacity to contribute to competitive grant development.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant program with tangible policy impact—candidates ready to deliver rigorous, influential research are encouraged to apply.
