About the Opportunity

Join Monash’s University Marketing Admissions and Communications (UMAC) team as our next Media and Communications Manager. We need a hands-on leader who will shape how the University talks to the world. You’ll be the key media and communications lead for Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Monash Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, while also playing a central role in UMAC’s unified media and communications function that serves the whole of Monash.

This is a high-impact role: you’ll be part of a motivated, brand-focused media and communications team that proactively sources, shapes and delivers powerful content across print, digital and broadcast channels. You’ll manage major branding and reputation projects, influence policy and quality frameworks, and provide expert, strategic advice to senior leaders to amplify Monash’s research, people and priorities.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and develop a high-performing media & communications function that delivers consistent, on-brand storytelling and fast, professional media responses.

  • Drive proactive content production, identifying news and storytelling opportunities, sourcing subject matter expertise, and developing content for websites, social, video, media pitches and more.

  • Manage major branding and reputation projects: coordinate cross-functional campaigns and high-profile initiatives that protect and elevate Monash’s brand.

  • Provide senior media counsel – be the trusted advisor to leaders, offering timely, evidence-based guidance on media strategy, risk and reputational matters.

  • Cultivate strong relationships with journalists, external media outlets, and internal stakeholders (faculty, research institutes, central functions and senior executives) to maximise reach and impact.

  • Oversee sentiment monitoring, coverage analysis and continuous improvement across media activity.

About You

You’re an experienced communications leader with a track record managing complex, brand-sensitive media functions in large, matrixed organisations. You bring:

  • Proven success in media relations and securing high-impact coverage across print, digital and broadcast.

  • Strong operational chops: resource planning, workflow management, and delivery against tight deadlines.

  • Expertise in policy, governance and media risk management.

  • Exceptional stakeholder skills: able to influence senior leaders, negotiate with partners and build cross-team consensus.

  • Sharp editorial judgement and polished writing for diverse channels.

  • A strategic mindset with the energy to consistently deliver high-quality, on-brand storytelling.

If you’re ready to shape Monash’s public voice, champion world-class research stories and contribute to a united, strategic media and communications function, we want to hear from you.
