The Opportunity
We are seeking highly motivated and skilled research and professional staff to join a prestigious Australian Research Council (ARC) Laureate Fellowship program led by Professor Alex Collie in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
These newly created positions are part of a major national initiative aimed at modernising Australia’s work disability support systems. The program will develop new evidence-based tools and policy models by integrating multidisciplinary approaches to assess system effectiveness, understand long-term work absences, and reflect community preferences. The outcomes will support more sustainable and participant-centred systems, reduce work disability, and improve productivity.
Research will be translated into practice through a national community of practice and a training program involving people with lived experience.

- Research Fellow - Social Policy Reform (686419) Level B $118,974 - $141,283 pa (plus 17% super)
- Senior Program Coordinator (686421) HEW 7 $106,789 - $117,128 (plus 17% super)
Research Fellow - Workplace Sickness Absence (686418)
This position will work on a landmark, national prospective cohort study of worker sickness absence (“sick leave”). The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Collie and other members of the program team to recruit a large cohort of Australian workers, follow them prospectively for 12 months, and link survey data to national administrative data systems for longer-term follow-up. The successful candidate will play a leading role in all aspects of the cohort study, including its design, data collection, analysis and reporting, publication and project management. The candidate will co-supervise a PhD student working on the program, and will also contribute to other major programs funded by the ARC Laureate fellowship

Research Fellow - Participant Experience Measures (687461)
This position will work on a research project developing and validating participant reported experience measures of people involved in Australian workers’ compensation and social security systems. The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Collie and other members of the program team to develop survey based measures of participant experiences, recruit cohorts of participants to test, refine and validate those measures. The successful candidate will play a leading role in all aspects of the study, including its design, data collection, analysis and reporting, publication and project management. The candidate will co-supervise a PhD student working on the program, and will also contribute to other major programs funded by the ARC Laureate fellowship

Research Fellow - Social Policy Reform (686419)
This position will work on a research project establishing community preferences for policy settings in Australian workers’ compensation and social security systems. The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Collie and other members of the program team to develop and conduct discrete choice experiments (a form of preference survey), recruit cohorts of participants, analyse data, report and communicate findings. The successful candidate will play a leading role in all aspects of the study, including its design, data collection, analysis and reporting, publication and project management. The candidate will co-supervise a PhD student working on the program, and will also contribute to other major programs funded by the ARC Laureate fellowship

Senior Program Coordinator (686421)
This will coordinate activity across the three large Laureate programs of research in, and manage the implementation of a national research training and capacity building program in work disability prevention. The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Collie and other members of the program team to ensure the Laureate program is delivered to scope and that key milestones are achieved. The Senior Program Coordinator is a key liaison point between the Laureate program, school, university and internal and external collaborators groups.
