The Opportunity
Monash Advancement is driving unprecedented levels of advocacy, philanthropy and alumni engagement, both nationally and globally. Through meaningful, engagement opportunities for our global network of alumni, donors and stakeholders, we enable Monash to deliver world-class education and research with transformative impact. Building on the success of our first billion-dollar campaign, #ChangeItForFutureGenerations, we continue to strengthen connections that elevate the University’s profile, reputation and capacity for positive change.
The Deputy Director, Development - Global Markets leads the design and delivery of a strategic, institution-wide approach to philanthropic engagement across priority global markets, with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for driving the growth of major and principal gift investment from individuals, family offices and institutional philanthropic partners, positioning Monash University as a trusted, high-impact partner for globally minded donors. Based in Australia, with regular international travel, you will personally manage a portfolio of internationally based major and principal gift prospects, with the intent to build and lead a small, high-performing team to grow Monash’s long-term philanthropic presence in Asia-Pacific.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Deep expertise and a proven record of accomplishment in developing and executing fundraising strategies within a large and complex organisation, with a strong record of securing significant funding from foundations and private donors in international markets, with a strong focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate and communicate effectively to build purposeful professional relationships with high level decision-makers and influencers across different cultures and geographies.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to craft compelling proposals and negotiate impactful, mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Superior organisational skills with experience leading multiple high-value projects simultaneously while ensuring exceptional performance, accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
- Broad knowledge of fundraising principles, institutional giving and relevant tax and regulatory frameworks impacting charitable giving.
- A highly successful history of leadership and people management, fostering collaborative, high-performing teams in dynamic and complex environments.
- Experience working within a major foundation, university fundraising environment or similar complex organisation, with strong working knowledge of global and regional philanthropic funding landscapes.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in contributing directly to the pursuit of Monash University’s ambitious fundraising growth targets and position Monash as an exceptional and truly international university with scale and reach. You will work in deep partnership with Monash University’s Pro-Vice Chancellors in Malaysia and Indonesia, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International, and collaborate closely with academic and senior leaders, drive major gift opportunities aligned to Monash’s institutional priorities, and play a pivotal role in realising philanthropic investment that creates lasting impact.
