We are seeking a Administrative Operations Officer to provide high‑quality administrative and operational support to the Department of Neuroscience, Australia’s leading academic department dedicated to neurological research and clinical translation.

Reporting to the Head and Deputy Head of the Department, you will play a key role in the smooth and effective operation of the department. This is a varied and collaborative role that supports the Department Heads, senior academic staff and key stakeholders through excellent administration, communication, and coordination.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Providing professional administrative support across departmental operations
  • Coordinating seminars, workshops, internal grant schemes and events
  • Supporting committees, projects and departmental reporting
  • Managing internal communications, including newsletters, seminar advertising and staff updates
  • Maintaining staff lists and acting as a delegated approver for basic departmental requests
  • Providing timely advice on policy, processes and administrative matters
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including Alfred Health
  • Contributing to continuous improvement in service delivery and processes

This role requires strong judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic academic and healthcare environment.

About you

You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines
  • A strong commitment to customer service and high‑quality outcomes
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team
  • Strong computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience in a university, healthcare or research environment (highly regarded)
