The Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture: In Melbourne, art, design and architecture are leading influences on the city’s internationally recognised cultural dynamism, exhibited through significant collecting and exhibiting institutions, commercial galleries and innovative cultural production.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Technical Officer to join the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture (MADA) to play a vital role in supporting creativity, innovation and hands-on learning. In this dynamic position, you’ll provide high-quality technical expertise across a range of studio disciplines—including painting, drawing, printmaking, video and photographic media—ensuring students and staff can confidently bring their ideas to life in a supportive and inclusive environment. 

Reporting to the Senior Technical Officer, you’ll be at the heart of our studio culture and workshop operations. This role offers the opportunity to combine your advanced technical knowledge with practical problem-solving and organisational skills. From maintaining specialist equipment and managing materials to delivering technical demonstrations and procedural training, you’ll directly contribute to teaching and research excellence. You’ll also support exhibitions and events, oversee day-to-day technical operations and help implement efficient systems and processes that keep facilities running smoothly.

Safety, precision and collaboration are central to this position. You’ll champion OH&S compliance, demonstrate the safe use of equipment, conduct testing and audits, and ensure studios remain inclusive, accessible, well-equipped and professionally maintained.
