The Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Lecturer (Education-Focused) to join the Department of Accounting within Monash Business School.

The Department of Accounting at Monash University is one of the largest academic departments of its kind and a leader in the advancement of accounting research, practice and education. It is currently ranked eighth globally by the Brigham Young Accounting Research Rankings for research over the last six years. In addition to publishing in outstanding international outlets, our faculty are recognised for the quality of their education, and the impact of their work on industry. For more information about the Department and the work we do, please visit our website.

As an Assistant Lecturer (Education Focused), you will make a strong contribution to the Department of Accounting’s teaching activities while supporting the University’s commitment to high-quality education. The role involves designing and delivering engaging learning experiences across lectures, tutorials and workshops, fostering inclusive and student-centred learning environments, and contributing to the development of curriculum and teaching materials.

Working with guidance from more senior academic staff and developing increasing autonomy over time, you will actively engage in scholarly practice to maintain and advance your disciplinary and educational expertise. Key aspects of the role include student consultation, assessment and marking, providing timely and constructive feedback, and participating in departmental and faculty initiatives that support educational excellence and student success. You will also contribute to scholarly activities that demonstrate an informed understanding of educational practice in your field and support faculty accreditation requirements.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will hold a master’s degree in the relevant discipline, an honours degree with progress towards a doctorate, or a doctorate in a relevant or closely related field. You will demonstrate the ability to teach effectively in a way that motivates and engages students, supported by experience in teaching and assessment within a tertiary environment and involvement in curriculum development, preferably in higher education.

You will bring an understanding of scholarly activity that informs teaching practice, along with knowledge of industry needs and employability outcomes relevant to the discipline. With strong planning, organisational and interpersonal skills, you will be able to manage competing priorities, work both independently and collaboratively, and contribute effectively within a higher education environment.
