The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Senior Animal Technologist who is committed to animal welfare, high-quality research support, and being a critical part of a high performing team? We are seeking a Senior Animal Technologist to play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of an animal facility unit, ensuring the highest standards of animal care, compliance, and service delivery to our research community.
Reporting to the Facility Manager, this hands-on senior technical position combines expertise, influence, and operational impact in a dynamic laboratory animal environment.
About the Role
As Senior Animal Technologist, you will:
- Champion the delivery of high-quality animal research services, ensuring best-practice animal care and husbandry
- Actively promote and inform animal welfare, ethical practice, and regulatory compliance
- Mentor team members,fostering a culture of care, accountability and continuous improvement
- Support researchers by delivering high quality animal research models and excellence in research support.
- Contribute to operational planning, resource allocation, quality monitoring, reporting and problem solving.
- Drive service excellence through effective engagement with the local team, wider platform and relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain and enhance SOPs, compliance frameworks and safe working environments
- Support platform innovation and best practice operations and service delivery through remaining up to date with current methodologies, equipment and technologies and identifying opportunities for improvement.

About You
You are a confident and capable senior animal technologist willing to set standards and support others to achieve a supportive, high performing team environment. You will bring:
- A Diploma of Animal Technology with relevant experience in a laboratory animal facility, or an equivalent combination of training and extensive experience
- Advanced practical experience in animal breeding and husbandry, including procedures such as blood collection, injections and euthanasia
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks governing animal research and gene technology
- Demonstrated experience coordinating, training and supporting teams in a complex bioresources setting
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and manage operational workloads
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with researchers, students and stakeholders
- Proven ability to author and review complex technical documentation to a high standard
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with sound judgement and the confidence to lead by example
