The Opportunity

The Casual Financial Accountant will provide expert accounting services to the University and is pivotal in maintaining accurate general ledger and accounting integrity, critical month-end and year-end processes, and assisting with statutory reporting. The Financial Accountant will play a key role across a range of financial reporting activities and initiatives including assistance with financial analysis, process improvements, and enhancing use of AI across Group Accounting.

This position will be responsible for delivering the University’s core financial accounting functions, including support with month-end and year-end close-off processes and providing financial analysis. You'll assist in the preparation of summary financial information, support audit compliance, and provide technical advice to inform strategic decision-making. Your work will contribute to shaping financial policy and enhancing financial systems through process improvements and training. Collaboration is central to this role, requiring strong engagement with business units and functional areas to ensure consistency, integrity, and continuous improvement in financial practices.

To be successful in this role, you will have a degree in finance or accounting, CPA or CA status, or equivalent experience in complex financial environments. You will bring deep expertise in Australian Accounting Standards, statutory reporting, and financial audits. Your proven ability to develop financial reports, and deliver analytical insights will be critical to success in this role. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and advanced Excel and financial systems knowledge will be essential.
